I am going to try to catch you up on everything that we have been doing! I think last time I posted about what we were doing we had just gotten water back to the house and were so happy that we could shower and wash dishes and drink water!! I am not sure if I ever mentioned how our shower works….(I know you’re saying, “realllyy, you are going to explain to us how a shower works?! And to that I say.. shhsh just listen! ) The first night we got to the house and were checking it out and everything, I walked into the bathroom and saw the shower a normal bathtub shower but I also noticed an outlet high up on the wall RIGHT next to the shower, and a plug hanging over the curtain rod and I immediately recalled those obnoxious tags on my hairdryer with the picture of the bathtub, the electrical cord and the huge red X through it, so there’s this alarm going off in my head saying not safe, not safe!! I open the shower curtain and find that the cord is attached to the shower head?! I have never seen anything like this ever, but apparently they are super common here and when you plug it in you get hot – ok maybe not hot but warmer water! – sweet!! Then we find out that surprise surprise we have a super special one! We can only leave the water on while the thing is plugged in for about 6 minutes at the most or it will pop the breaker. So the process we have all gotten used to is to turn the shower on - get your hair wet – turn the water off – shampoo hair – turn water on – rinse hair – turn water off – conditioner/wash body – turn on – rinse – turn off – wash face – turn on – rinse and voila done!! i am a habitual long shower taker, so I am learning how to shower quicker…..i have popped the breaker a couple of times but I am getting better….my excuse always is that I have really thick hair and it takes a long time to get the shampoo and conditioner out of my hair – not that I am just slow!! I think this new way of showering is really a good way to be eco friendly and save water! It makes me feel good! ;)
Wow I have really gotten off on a tangent….i am supposed to be talking about what we have been doing…. so here goes - I sort of fibbed in a previous post when I said that I would take notes about all the things we were doing…. but chris did!!! :) isn’t he the best!! So I would mooch off of his journal to remember the things that we have done but I do not have access to that right now so this is what I can remember!
The day after thanksgiving when we were woken up very early (early in our book is before 9! I know by that point Chris’ parents have already accomplished most of their tasks for their day! Which amazes me! ) by all the horses in our yard – that I forgot to mention in my earlier post that the horses were doing unmentionable things…..awkward!! And not what I want to be woken up to! haha but it was a funny story to tell! So after we all rested up a little more, Chris and I went to Playa de los muertos (beach of the dead) – it got that name because there is a large cemetery right above the beach and years ago there was a big flood and bodies washed up on the beach. It is also called Glass Beach because you can find a lot of sea glass there! I have really developed a love of searching for sea glass so when I heard about this beach, where I had been told you could pick up hand fulls of sea glass I was super eager to go there…so we walked to the beach which is near town and walked all along the beach and I was a little disappointed because there was not as much sea glass as I had imagined….but I think I was imagining this beach that was covered in sea glass…silly me! But I found that if I really looked there actually was a lot…I got a lot! Chris was getting tired and bored and wanted to leave and I was having too much fun looking for sea glass…we all know that I am easily distracted by shiny objects, so eventually I gave in and we left. It was a very pretty beach, with cliffs lining the sides of the beach, I think we were there at high tide so the waves were crashing into the rocks and we would have to time it just right as we were walking down the beach and would wait until a wave crashed and then run across to safety (chris had his big camera so we were trying not to get wet). Apparently you can find more sea glass on the beach after a big rain or a windy day. So we will go back soon! I have pictures and will post them next time.
One day I cannot remember what day but chris and I borrowed the car and drove down to the south side of the island where all the best beaches are and we were trying to find Blue Beach where he had been with his family 3 years ago….we were not sure where it was but we knew the road that we were on would take us to a beach of some sort. We drove down a couple side roads, and saw a couple of cars parked outside of a path so we decided to park and walk to the beach. We were carrying our snorkeling gear towels and a sheet to lay on. We had to walk down a path through the jungle, and I kept feeling like there were bugs all over me, and I kept smacking my back and itching and then I asked chris if there were any mosquitos on my back and he said calmly but frantic put the sheet around you! Put the sheet around you! And then he proceeds to start smacking my back. Then he tells me that I had about 20 mosquitos covering my back!!!!! EEEEEKKKKK!!! I think we have cleared up the question of whether mosquitos love me or chris better.....this was not a contest I wanted to win! So after only walking a little ways down the path… we hadn’t even gotten to the beach or even been able to see the beach through the trees….but after discovering how much the mosquitos loved me I made the decision that I did not want to go to this beach and we hurried back to the car and drove down another road and ended up at red beach which was packed but it was gorgeous!!! The clearest water I have ever seen! It looked like bath water and felt like bath water. Chris loved it there because there were waves and he likes jumping in them or body surfing…he made me body surf one wave – I did not want to do it – but I did and it was ok…I got sand everywhere! But it was so pretty I cannot wait to go back!
Chris is begging me to finish so we can go home because he worked tonight and I came in and sat at the bar used the internet, enjoyed some cold beers, and got to know some people sitting at the bar!! But chris is tired and ready to go home. So I am wrapping this post up and will continue the rest soon and I will post pictures!
Oh I have so much to post!! I will get caught up soon I hope!
Bueno Noche
